The Cintora mud volcano is located in the hamlet of Rocca Santa Maria and has the same characteristics as those of neighbouring Nirano: salt water, methane gas and clay slurry flow from its cone, which is about one metre in height.
Up until 1975, the cone had reached a height of four metres.
Local people call the mud volcano ‘Bomba’ or “bomb” because, during thunderstorms, its cone emits sounds similar to small explosions.
