Lake Torbido is located just uphill from the more famous Lake Turchino, at the foot of the “Sleeping Beauty” massif, at an altitude of 1680 metres.
The name Torbido or ‘Torbo’ probably derives from the meaning of the word itself, which, in the local dialect of Tagliole, means ‘dirty’.
Its waters are indeed dark due to the blackish colouring of the lakebed.
During the summer, however, this small lake is usually dry.
The water is retained in the basin by a low-lying wall composed of rock debris.
