A beautiful oratory in Torre di Vaglio, just below Montecenere, with a splendid view of the Apennines!
The Modenese Apennines are also rich in history and culture and there are many oratories found in our territory.
This small oratory, probably dating back to 1700, is the Oratory of the Holy Trinity.
It is also located along the current route of the Via Romea Germanica Imperiale, in the stretch that passes from Mercatovecchio then reaches Il Merlo, passes under S. Lucia, then arrives in Vaglio.
The oratory, still well preserved today, has origins that date back to at least 1700. In fact, a deed proving its ownership to the priest Don Pellegrino Canovi dates back to 1737 but it is not known whether he himself built it or not.
The Oratory, of very simple design, has a beautiful gray stone portal, surmounted by a triangular tympanum that stands out in the white facade, with beautiful stone corbels.
In the rear part another trilithic portal, simpler, corresponds to that of the facade.
The information above is taken from the book “Vaglio – an ancient community” by Antonio Mazzieri.
Again from the book cited above we learn how the property passed from the Canovi family to the Carlotti family who made it the family tomb.
This last change of ownership dates back to at least the mid-19th century as a Carlotti from Acquaria was buried in 1847.
The oratory is still privately owned and therefore cannot be visited inside but it is still possible to admire it from the outside.
