Montecreto (Modena) - Italia
Montecreto stands on a hillside, at 900 metres altitude, and is built around the Church of St John, overlooking the valley of the River Scoltenna.
Its municipal territory stretches along the right side of the valley, and spreads as far as the peaks of Mounts Rondinara, Cavrile and Cervarola.
If you are spending a holiday in the Modena Apennines, we definitely recommend a visit to the Parco dei Castagni di Montecreto (Montecreto Chestnut Park), a magical place where centuries-old trees give off an incredible energy.
The importance of this park has led to Montecreto earning the name “City of Chestnut Trees”.
The cultural offer is enriched by the Stone Lions Museum, which traces the history of the local area as well as the wider area of Frignano, with some very interesting collections.
Several itineraries start from the village, either in the immediate vicinity or leading further afield, up to Mount Cervarola.
